Campaign Contribution Update
It has been a minute since we looked at the campaign finances for each candidate. I will do a full breakdown as I did before, but for now, just doing a summary to show where everyone is after the filings done last week.
This will be the county commission race.
Generally speaking, the person who raises the most, wins the election. This is because the money allows them to spend more on mailers, advertisements and so on. It is easier to reach voters with more money than your opponents.
That is not to say that candidates with less resources can not win. We saw what happened with Janet Barek and Dave Vincent last election. Both trailed their incumbent opponent by a lot of money, yet still pulled off the win.
District 4
As expected, the leader in the clubhouse is Rebecca Bays. She has amassed a war chest of $97,945. The amount includes $82,945 in direct contributions and a loan of $15,000. She also has $4770.89 in In-Kind contributions, which is NOT counted in the campaign totals.
Next, in this race is Dr Holli Herndon.
She has raised $25,085.08. This includes $24,585.08 in direct contributions and loans of $500. She also has $1594.72 in In-Kind contributions.
Next is Jennifer Grogan. She has totaled $6,099.98 in contributions. $1889.98 came from other people. She loaned her campaign $4210. She has In-Kind contributions of $225.
District 2
This race is a bit closer. Stacey Worthington leads Diana Finegan by a good bit. However, Diana has not loaned her campaign money... yet. I assume if it comes down to it and she needs cash to do mailers or other advertisements, she will not hesitate to write a check for $10-20k, or whatever is needed. I do not think she is relying solely on campaign contributions.
Stacey has amassed $68,270 in total contributions. This includes $64,270 from direct contributions and loans from herself totaling $6,000. She has In-Kind contributions of $6,168,68.
Lastly, we have Diana Finegan. She has amassed a total of $49,640. All of this is direct contributions, as she is the only candidate in any commission race that has not yet loaned her campaign money. She has In-Kind contributions totaling $2,468.91.
One thing I also wanted to take a look at. What is the average contribution that each candidate is receiving. Something can be said about a campaign if they are getting a lot of smaller donations vs a lot of larger donations. I will let you guys decide which you prefer in a candidate, but there are opinions on both sides.
In any case, here are the averages contributed to each candidate.
Bays leads the way with $386 average per contribution. She is followed by Finegan with $260 per contribution, Worthington with $246 per contribution, Grogan with $145 per contribution and Herndon with $87 per contribution.
